At Fisherman’s Hall in Charles Town, a gathering celebrated Black History Month with stories of African American contributions to Appalachian culture, particularly through the proposed Affrilachian Trail project. Organized by Jamila Jones, the event featured speakers discussing historical figures like Robert Smalls and the local African American Legion post, Post 63, honoring those involved in John Brown's raid. The initiative seeks to recognize the vital role of Black history and culture in the region, reflecting a two-year effort that recently achieved trademark status.
