Celebrated North Carolina author Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle has been appointed as the Appalachian Heritage Writer-in-Residence at Shepherd University, serving from March 2025 to January 2026. Known for her novel 'Even As We Breathe' and impactful essays on local foodways and Cherokee culture, Clapsaddle’s appointment will enhance the literary landscape of the region, including local schools and organizations in towns like Charles Town and Harpers Ferry, through various programming at the Center for Appalachian Studies and Communities. Her contributions will also aid in the curation of the 2026 'Anthology of Appalachian Writers,' showcasing regional talent and voices.
