Bald eagle sightings in West Virginia have significantly increased, with over 130 confirmed nests statewide by 2022, including sightings near historic towns like Harpers Ferry and areas such as the New River Gorge. Conservation efforts, initiated after the species was brought back from near extinction, have contributed to the resurgence of these majestic birds. Local residents can enjoy viewing bald eagles at various picturesque locations and even through live feeds from nests, such as the one at the National Conservation Training Center. As reported by WBOY 12 News, both tourists and locals can spot these eagles along rivers and mountain ridges, particularly during breeding and migration seasons.
