Clarke County men honored for rescuing fire victim

On November 2, a house fire near Berryville prompted a heroic rescue by Harley Reed and Michael Freeman, who helped save an elderly neighbor trapped inside. Both men were later honored by the Clarke County Board of Supervisors for their bravery. The incident occurred close to the Virginia border, showcasing the strong community ties that extend into nearby areas, including Ranson and Charles Town. The local fire crews were supported by responders from surrounding counties and the federal Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center. The Board recognized the swift actions of Reed and Freeman as crucial to the victim's survival, despite the house being a total loss.
