After 25 years of advocacy, the Friends of Blackwater announced that Blackwater Canyon, located within the natural beauty of Tucker County, is now fully protected due to an agreement facilitated by Senator Joe Manchin. This landmark deal, which involves the transfer of 2,700 acres to the Monongahela National Forest, enhances outdoor access and is expected to bolster tourism and the local economy. The protection of this scenic area not only benefits recreation but also ensures its preservation for biodiversity and heritage tourism, as noted by the director of the Friends of Blackwater in a statement to WBOY 12 News.
