In light of the federal government shutdown, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that discussions are ongoing to ensure Bridge Day, a significant annual event attracting visitors from Harpers Ferry and surrounding areas, will proceed without disruption. Efforts include negotiations with the National Park Service to guarantee that local national parks, including New River Gorge and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, remain operational, thereby maintaining access for attendees and tourists eager to participate in the festivities on Saturday, as previously supported by resource allocations to keep visitor centers open.
