The Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History & Education in Shepherdstown recently welcomed new leadership, including director Zach Dougherty and archivist Melanie Garvey, during an open house event. Zach Dougherty aims to foster youth political engagement while maintaining a nonpartisan approach to educating the public about the legislative process and the Constitution. Melanie Garvey, a Shepherd University alumna, plans to enhance the archive's role as a teaching space for students. The event highlighted the center's commitment to outreach and its legacy of engaging speakers, supported by founding director Ray Smock, who remains involved during this transition, as reported by The Shepherdstown Chronicle.
