Charles Town Event Celebrates Black History Through Storytelling

“Affrilachian Trail” project tells stories celebrating Black History Month

At Fisherman’s Hall in Charles Town, community members gathered to celebrate African American history through stories of notable figures like Robert Smalls and local organizations such as Post 63. Organizer Jamila Jones detailed her Affrilachian Trail project, aimed at preserving and promoting black contributions to Appalachian culture, with plans for a headquarters at the historic Weaver-Gillison House in Harpers Ferry. The event emphasized the collective effort to honor local narratives critical to understanding the region's diverse heritage.
