In a significant step for Charles Town, the Jefferson County Commission approved a 20-year bond proposal to fund the acquisition and renovation of the old American Public University System buildings into a government and judicial complex. The deal includes a $16 million financing package, with a proposed bond rate of 4.627% and annual payments estimated at $1.25 million. Commission President Pasha Majdi emphasized the financial prudence of the deal, highlighting the positive impact on local tax revenue and commercial growth. The project is expected to utilize development impact fees of around $5.696 million over the next decade, aligning with the county's goals for improved government efficiency and community enhancement.
