In a historic move for local governance, the Jefferson County Commission has approved a $16 million financing package to purchase and renovate two buildings formerly used by the American Public University System. This initiative aims to convert their downtown Charles Town facilities into county administrative offices and a courthouse, enhancing government efficiency. Commission president Pasha Majdi expressed optimism about the transition from public to private sector use of current office space during the May 7 meeting, conducted via Zoom. The commission selected a 20-year lease revenue bond from Carty, Harding & Hearn, Inc. to facilitate the acquisition.
