Tension arose between Charles Town officials and the Jefferson County Commission after the latter failed to discuss a potential partnership for redeveloping downtown buildings set to be vacated by 2026. During the commission meeting on May 15, representatives from Charles Town Now, the city's downtown development partner, urged the commission to support a $70,000 professional redevelopment study. This initiative aims to create a plan for utilizing the 100 block of East Washington Street buildings, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration for revitalization efforts in the town.
