As the Jefferson County Commission advances plans to relocate administrative offices from downtown Charles Town, the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia has listed the area’s historic district among the state's Most Endangered Historic Properties. This decision follows concerns over the potential impact on ten historic buildings, including the prestigious Jefferson County Courthouse, a National Historic Landmark. Despite attempts by city representatives to engage with the county commission regarding redevelopment, officials have not acknowledged their requests. The Preservation Alliance is advocating for collaboration to ensure the historical integrity and economic vitality of downtown Charles Town, emphasizing that communication is crucial for the future of this significant area.
