According to a report by WV Metro News, drought conditions in West Virginia are worsening, with parts of 10 counties, including nearby areas like Jefferson County, now experiencing extreme drought. Towns such as Charles Town and Martinsburg have seen upgraded classifications, moving from moderate to severe drought, further stressing local farmers and livestock producers. The West Virginia Department of Agriculture advises local cattle producers to manage livestock grazing to prevent damage to pasturelands during this critical time. With overall drought levels across the state affecting almost one-third of the territories, communities are urged to work proactively to mitigate the impacts of this severe weather phenomenon.
