The Independent Observer | Tuesday, March 4, 2025
The Independent Observer reports that Charles Town's City Council approved a Private Outdoor Designated Area (PODA) ordinance, allowing patrons to consume alcohol outdoors in designated zones around the downtown area. At a March 3 meeting, the ordinance passed with a 7-2 vote, proposing support for local businesses to enhance downtown activity. While 13 residents supported the measure, concerns were raised by local merchants about potential littering and disruption. The PODA district spans 16 blocks, with future expansions possible to include the new Depot District. This initiative reflects an effort to revitalize the area and enhance local engagement.
