During a community meeting at Wright Denny Intermediate School on January 29, concerns arose among Charles Town officials and residents regarding a new interchange planned between Route 51 and West Washington Street. Councilman Jeff Hynes expressed that while the West Virginia Division of Highways prioritizes efficient vehicle movement, local residents are more worried about pedestrian access and the impact on parking in the west-end area, demonstrating a divide in priorities between state officials and the community.
