In a recent city council meeting, Charles Town officials announced new enforcement measures to strengthen the collection of business and occupation (B&O) taxes, which had faced issues of non-compliance. Finance Director Lori Nice detailed a five-step enforcement strategy aimed at businesses that fail to register for licenses or pay their B&O taxes, highlighting the importance of timely payment based on their gross sales. With tax deadlines set for January and July of each year, city officials stress that these actions will ensure fair tax practices among local businesses and improve city revenue.
