Alvin Mills, a Charles Town native and 1969 high school graduate, reflects on his service in Vietnam as the last Jefferson County draftee. Trained as an engineer specializing in heavy equipment, he cleared dangerous jungles and engaged in combat during his nearly year-long deployment. Upon returning home, Mills experienced no negativity from the community, even being featured in Life Magazine. A proud veteran, he advocates for military service while expressing concerns about current political motivations behind enlistment.
