North Carolina's Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle has been appointed as the Appalachian Heritage Writer-in-Residence at Shepherd University from March 2025 to January 2026. Known for her acclaimed debut novel, 'Even As We Breathe,' which received multiple awards, Clapsaddle will utilize her diverse writing expertise to enhance programming through the Center for Appalachian Studies and Communities. Her responsibilities include editing the upcoming 2026 'Anthology of Appalachian Writers,' with a project funded by a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council, an initiative relevant to the creative literary landscape of Shepherdstown and the broader region.
