In a decisive move, the Jefferson County Commission approved a new set of commercial impact fees aimed at funding infrastructure for new developments. Following a study by the consulting firm TischlerBise, the commission voted 4 to 1 on December 19 to implement fees ranging from $167 to $1,961 per 1,000 square feet of non-residential commercial space, effective June 1. This decision responds to local development needs in towns like Charles Town and Ranson, ensuring that growth is met with adequate resources as future commercial projects emerge in the area. The Spirit of Jefferson reports on this pivotal change.
