On July 8, the Jefferson County Commission voted unanimously to dissolve and reconfigure the board of the Jefferson County Development Authority. This decision, aimed at enhancing efficiency in attracting business investments, was met with criticism from some former board members who described it as an overreach. Legal counsel informed the commission that recent state code changes allow for more flexibility in board composition, leading to a decision to reduce the 15-member board to nine, a move that may significantly impact local economic development efforts in towns like Charles Town and Ranson.
