The Spirit of Jefferson reports that following the purchase of two buildings in Charles Town, the Jefferson County Commission has encountered a $2.5 million increase in the estimated costs for upgrading security features in the new courthouse at 330 N. George Street. Initially projected at $9 million, these upgrades were prompted by recommendations from a local committee of criminal justice experts who underscored the necessity for enhanced security measures, reflecting ongoing concerns about safety in local government facilities.
