West Virginia's containment area for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), also known as 'zombie deer disease,' has expanded to include Grant County after a confirmed case, as reported by WBOY 12 News. This neurological illness affects deer and has raised concerns for residents and hunters alike, especially in nearby areas such as Charles Town and Harpers Ferry where hunting is popular. Although the disease has not yet been detected in Pendleton County, new transportation and baiting restrictions are being implemented there to prevent spread. As hunters prepare for the season, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources reminds them to follow carcass transport regulations to protect the local deer population.
