The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has expanded the Chronic Wasting Disease containment area following the detection of the disease in a deer from nearby Grant County. With a history of CWD cases since 2015, local officials stress the importance of adhering to carcass transport regulations to protect the deer population. Restrictions on baiting and feeding deer will be enforced, particularly impacting residents and hunters in areas like Charles Town and Harpers Ferry. For hunters in the containment zone, free CWD testing continues to be available during the hunting seasons.
