The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has announced the expansion of the Chronic Wasting Disease Containment Area to include Grant County after the detection of the disease in a deer there. This change follows cases identified in surrounding areas, including those just across the state line from Ranson and Harpers Ferry. Hunters are urged to adhere to new carcass transport regulations starting in 2025 to help protect deer populations. Nearby Pendleton County will also see baiting restrictions as a precaution, even though CWD has not been detected there yet. Free CWD testing for hunters is available in containment areas, according to the West Virginia Press Association.
