Starting Monday, detours will be in place on Old Charles Town Road due to the replacement of the old low-water bridge at the Clarke County/Frederick County line, a necessary upgrade given its history of flooding and safety issues. The Virginia Department of Transportation outlines new routes for drivers traveling east from Clarke County and west from Frederick, ultimately reconnecting them to Old Charles Town Road. The bridge, almost 100 years old, will be replaced with a safer, two-lane structure 5 feet taller, and is expected to reopen by November, with a construction completion date set for May 2026. This improvement directly impacts residents and travelers in nearby Charles Town and serves to enhance community safety, as highlighted by The Winchester Star.
