Berkeley Sheriff’s Office gets grant to fund checkpoints

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department has secured a grant from the Commission on Drunk Driving Prevention to fund DUI checkpoints in the area, aimed at enhancing road safety. The grant will facilitate at least three checkpoints every four months, with the first having taken place on March 28 along Route 9 near Laurel Ridge. During this initial checkpoint, officers conducted multiple field sobriety tests, leading to several DUI arrests and citations. This initiative aligns with local efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving, impacting residents in nearby towns such as Charles Town and Ranson, as highlighted by The Journal.
