On April 22, join locals at the Byrd Auditorium in Shepherdstown for a free presentation by Christie Palmer Lowrance, exploring her book 'The Last Heath Hen: An Extinction Story.' The book tells the tale of the elusive Heath Hen, which went extinct in 1933 and reflects on early conservation efforts in America. Lowrance, a biographer and educator from Sandwich, Massachusetts, will also discuss Thornton W. Burgess, a key figure in conservation history known for his influence in passing the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The event is cosponsored by The Friends of the National Conservation Training Center, highlighting the area’s commitment to environmental education.
