Samuel A. McDade, an eighth grader at Shepherdstown Middle School, raised $400 for Hurricane Helene relief by selling painted Styrofoam pumpkins and skulls during his school's Fall Fun Fest. Inspired by his family’s long-standing connection to Ocracoke Island, where he visits annually, Sam garnered additional support from his grandparents, each donating $100. He expressed his intentions to help hurricane survivors in a heartfelt letter to Ocracoke Methodist Church, highlighting his commitment to the cause, as noted in an article by The Journal.
