Oldest Public School and Historic Sites Named Endangered
2025 'Endangered Properties' list now includes state's oldest public school

The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia has identified three significant sites for its 2025 Endangered Properties list, including the state's oldest operational public school building and a historic 107-year-old former jail in downtown Spencer. Additionally, the Middleway Historic District, known for its historical significance, was also highlighted, showcasing the ongoing efforts to preserve important local heritage in the region.
