Historic Mannington Public School Named Endangered Site

2025 ‘Endangered Properties’ list now includes state’s oldest public school

Three significant sites in West Virginia, including the Mannington Public School, the state’s oldest operating public school, have been added to the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia’s Endangered Properties list for 2025. Alongside a historic jail in downtown Spencer and the Middleway Historic District, this initiative highlights the importance of preserving local heritage structures that hold vital historical value for communities, including those in nearby areas like Charles Town and Harpers Ferry. The announcement was made by the West Virginia Press Association.
