During the kickoff of Christmas in Shepherdstown, Mrs. Claus, portrayed by Judy Shepherd, bid farewell after 35 years of organizing festive events that have become a cherished tradition in the town. The ceremony, held at McMurran Hall, featured emotional tributes from local leaders, including Mayor Gatz and Jim Auxer as Ebenezer Scrooge, honoring Shepherd’s significant contributions to the community. This year also marks the retirement of long-time Santa Claus, Mark 'Jimmy' Crain, who brought joy to residents despite moving to Maine. The town celebrated Shepherd's legacy by granting her the honorary title of 'The Heart of Shepherdstown,' acknowledging her dedication to fostering community spirit through holiday celebrations.
