FirstEnergy held an open house at the Shepherd University Wellness Center on August 13 to discuss its Gore-Doubs-Goose Creek Improvements Project, which involves upgrading a 44-mile transmission line through regions including Charles Town and Ranson. The project aims to improve energy reliability amid rising electricity demand from residential and commercial sectors. Concerns from residents about eminent domain and potential rate increases were voiced at the event. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with completion expected by 2030. More details, including a project map, can be found on FirstEnergy's website, as reported by The Shepherdstown Chronicle.
