Forensic science students at Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction engaged in hands-on learning during a DNA fingerprinting lab. Under the guidance of forensic teacher Catherine Jozwik, students worked in groups to match DNA samples from a hypothetical crime scene, utilizing real techniques such as agarose gel electrophoresis. This experience allowed them to gain practical insights into forensic science, fostering interest in potential careers in the field. Senior student Daylin Hoyler emphasized the excitement of seeing their DNA results firsthand, highlighting the lab's role in enhancing the educational experience and sparking passion for science among local youths.
