The Hancock County Commission has officially approved a bid from the Jefferson County Humane Society to manage the county's animal shelter, addressing ongoing staffing issues. This partnership aims to enhance animal adoption rates, with the local humane society bringing expertise and resources to improve operations. During the commission meeting, it was highlighted that some animals have been at the shelter for over 300 days, compared to the humane society's average adoption wait time of just 22 days. The contract is expected to be finalized soon, with hopes for collaboration to begin in early November, ultimately benefiting both the animals and the community.
