The National Park Service has announced plans to demolish five deteriorating structures, known as the Henkle Farm House buildings, within Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, effective January 21. These buildings, located in the Schoolhouse Ridge area near Millville, pose safety risks for visitors and staff. This action fulfills the park's 2010 General Management Plan, which aims to restore the area to its historic battlefield landscape from 1862. The structures, originally built in the early 1900s, have been vacant since the 1950s, following their abandonment by the Standard Lime and Stone Company.
