A Virginia environmental group, Friends of the Shenandoah River, has warned summer swimmers and paddlers in the area around Harpers Ferry to stay away from certain sections of the Shenandoah River and its tributaries due to elevated levels of E. Coli bacteria. Recent water testing conducted in Clarke, Warren, and Page counties revealed bacteria levels significantly higher than the safe threshold for recreational use, raising concerns for residents from nearby towns who utilize the river for outdoor activities during the summer.
