Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is set to demolish five dilapidated structures originally built by Jacob Henkle to create a historically accurate battlefield landscape of the 1862 Battle of Harpers Ferry. The National Park Service announced that the demolition, which poses safety risks to visitors, will start on January 21 and take around one month. Superintendent Tanya Gossett highlighted the project’s focus on enhancing the visitor experience, linking the site’s transformation to the rich history of the town and its pivotal role in American history, as noted by West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
