Harpers Ferry Student Shines at State MATHCOUNTS Competition
Local student places 5th in WV State MATHCOUNTS Competition

On March 29, students from Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry Middle Schools, along with a local homeschooler, represented the Eastern WV Chapter in the WV State MATHCOUNTS Competition. Among the participants, Jonathan Gutzman from Harpers Ferry Middle School achieved an impressive 5th place among over 60 competitors from 17 schools statewide. Additionally, the Shepherdstown Middle School Team secured 4th place in the team competition after months of practice. Gutzman expressed how the program has significantly enhanced his math skills. MATHCOUNTS is supported by various national organizations including the Department of Defense.
