Local Leaders Honored at Heart of the Community Event
Nine community leaders awarded with Heart of the Community honors

The Journal reports on the inaugural Heart of the Community honors, celebrated during the Black Policy Day event in Charles Town. Nine local leaders were recognized for their impactful contributions to the region's Black community, including former Shepherdstown Town Council member Jenny Haynes and education advocate Charlotte Norris. Jefferson County Magistrate Arthena Roper highlighted the importance of collective action in building inclusive communities. Other notable awardees included Miss West Virginia 2017 Tamia Hardy and social justice advocate Tiffany Ferguson, each sharing personal reflections on their commitment to community service and leadership.
