Union raises alarm over hiring freeze, possible cuts at Jefferson County Emergency Services

The Jefferson County Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 5351 has raised concerns regarding a hiring freeze at the Jefferson County Emergency Services Agency, which could lead to decreased daily staffing and longer response times for emergencies affecting local communities like Charles Town and Ranson. The union reported that the county administration has prevented the filling of crucial positions, including an EMT and an advanced life support provider, thus jeopardizing service levels. Additionally, previously approved positions for fiscal year 2025 have been cut, raising alarms over the impact on public safety in the area.
