On July 8, the Commission voted unanimously to dissolve the Jefferson County Development Authority's (JCDA) board, reducing its size from 15 to 9 members to enhance efficiency and focus on attracting business investment. This controversial move, which drew criticism from former board members like Elizabeth Ricketts of Charles Town and Robert Meade-Curry from Harpers Ferry, follows significant changes to state code allowing more flexibility in board composition. As the commission prepares to appoint new members on August 7, it aims to shift the JCDA's direction towards meeting local developmental goals while addressing concerns about board representation and community involvement.
