During the August 7 meeting, the Jefferson County Commission engaged in a heated discussion with Charles Town councilwoman Ricketts regarding the restructuring of the Jefferson County Development Authority (JCDA). Following legal counsel's guidance, the commission approved the dissolution of the existing 15-member board, opting for a more streamlined nine-member format. Commissioner Mike Mood criticized the JCDA for lacking effectiveness in attracting businesses and emphasized the need to recruit larger employers to reduce local commuting. The commission also outlined ambitious goals for the JCDA, including collaboration with state leadership and a focus on agritourism and a new sports complex to stimulate economic growth.
