As her term as Chief Judge of the 23rd Circuit draws to a close, Judge Laura V. Faircloth reflects on her experiences, highlighting the importance of courtroom operations and judicial collaboration with the Day Report Center in combating local drug issues. In anticipation of the circuit's upcoming transformation into the 27th, she emphasizes her commitment to improving the safety and wellness of defendants, as well as her readiness for new challenges as Jefferson County transitions into its own Judicial Circuit under the leadership of Judge Debra McLaughlin. The ongoing struggles with substance abuse and new policies in her courtroom underscore her dedication to the community while she looks forward to welcoming Judge Catie Wilkes-Delligatti to the judiciary in the new year. The opening of a new courthouse annex in Berkeley County is another positive development on the horizon.
