Juneteenth celebrations planned for next week in Jefferson County

Communities in the Eastern Panhandle, including Martinsburg and Charles Town, are gearing up for Juneteenth celebrations on June 19, marking the day when enslaved individuals in Texas were declared free. Events will include a Gospel Fest and recognition ceremonies at Papa's Chicken and Ribs, alongside activities hosted by the local NAACP at Evitts Run Park showcasing music and community art. As this holiday becomes a state celebration following its recognition in 2023, more local activities from organizations like the Sumner Ramer School are also planned.
