In a recent appointment, Kelvin Upson has joined the Jefferson County Board of Education, filling the seat vacated by Rikki Twyford. Upson, a former member of the Jefferson County Commission, brings extensive experience in education and public service, including a 22-year teaching background and a commitment to enhancing student outcomes. His focus as a board member will be on teacher recruitment, academic achievement, and responsible fiscal management. Upson’s passion for education was sparked by witnessing his children’s growth and educational journey. Board President Kathryn Skinner welcomed him, highlighting the valuable perspective he brings to strengthen local schools in Charles Town and its surrounding communities.
