With growing concerns about the dangers of leftover pills, including narcotics, U.S. Attorney Matt Harvey emphasizes the importance of preventing these drugs from being misused or accidentally ingested, especially by children. This event not only facilitates safe disposals but also raises awareness of the ongoing issue of prescription drug misuse, a concern that echoes throughout the community. According to the DEA, last year's event saw the collection of 9,600 tons of old medications nationwide, highlighting the urgency of proper disposal methods.
