During the annual Jazz Brunch and Silent Auction on April 12, Dr. Jessica Alfonso, assistant superintendent for Equity and Inclusion, was honored as the educator of the year by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's Eastern Panhandle Alumnae Chapter, reported by The Journal. The event celebrated community impact, recognizing scholarship and service award recipients, including students from local schools like Martinsburg High. Alfonso reflected on her journey from feeling apathetic as a student to now advocating for belonging and connection in education, emphasizing the importance of supporting all students in their growth and success.
