During a recent public hearing in Martinsburg, around 40 participants voiced concerns to the PEIA Finance Board regarding rising healthcare costs and their impact on local public employees, including teachers and other service personnel. Attendees shared personal stories about the financial strain caused by increasing premiums and the struggle to afford basic necessities. Educators from Spring Mills High School highlighted the challenges of unfilled vacancies and the exodus of experienced staff to neighboring states due to inadequate pay and benefits. Local lawmakers acknowledged the difficulties faced in advocating for necessary locality pay adjustments amidst a broader legislative context. The meeting underscored the critical need for a sustainable solution to address these urgent issues for the community.
