The Berkeley-Jefferson Extension Master Gardener Association hosted its 12th annual Tomato Fest at the Berkeley County Youth Fairgrounds, featuring 28 heirloom tomato varieties from local growers. The festival's move to a larger venue allowed for a more enjoyable experience, with attendees sampling tomatoes, participating in children’s activities, and enjoying gourmet food prepared by community members. Despite a slight decline in attendance to around 600-700, festival co-chair Mary Palmer expressed optimism about continued growth, as the event becomes a highlight for residents in towns like Martinsburg and Shepherdstown, blending education and fun in celebrating heirloom tomatoes.
