The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia has added the Middleway Historic District to its Endangered Properties List, highlighting concerns about a proposed water bottling facility by Sidewinder Industries near the village. This development could jeopardize the historic character of Middleway, which features structures from the 1700s and 1800s, as well as troubling environmental implications. Community advocates, including the Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission, are voicing their opposition, underscoring the importance of preserving what they consider a rare historical treasure.
